NORFOLK – The Madison County Sheriff’s Office reports an “isolated incident” occurred this afternoon on the Northeast Community College campus in Norfolk.
Three students in the parking lot of the Northeast Utility Line building were approached by an armed man in a car as the students were leaving their vehicle. No one was hurt. The man left the parking lot and local law enforcement was contacted. The matter remains under investigation.
“The College community is cooperating with the investigation,” said Northeast President Dr. Michael Chipps. “We take safety of our students very seriously and we are grateful that no one was hurt in this incident.”
Chipps said Northeast has alert systems in place to notify the campus community in these types of situations. We have multiple means to communicate emergency situations to our students, faculty and staff, including an alert system that relays text, voicemail and email.”
Authorities are looking for a late 1990s or early 2000’s green Pontiac Grand Prix. Anyone with information is asked to call the Madison County Sheriff’s Office at (402)454-2110.
